SEND Caseworker – Supporting Pupils with Special Educational Needs

About the role
The SEND Caseworker will support schools, settings and families in applying the graduated approach to meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Working within a cluster under a Senior Casework Officer, the role ensures statutory assessment processes are coordinated and that pupils receive appropriate support.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate statutory assessment and Education, Health and Care (EHC) planning for pupils across a defined group of schools.
- Monitor statutory timescales, ensure EHC plans are up‑to‑date and that outcomes from annual reviews are tracked.
- Work closely with SENCos, head teachers, High Needs Support Officer, Independent Travel Trainer and multi‑agency partners including health, social care and occupational therapy.
- Advise parents and carers on the EHC assessment process, personal budget and placement options.
- Maintain up‑to‑date information on pupil placements, costs and transport arrangements.
- Stay informed of changes in SEND legislation, policy and guidance.
Required profile
- Experience working within SEND, education or related multi‑agency environments.
- Strong understanding of the graduated approach, EHC planning and statutory assessment procedures.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with schools, families and external agencies.
- Ability to manage caseloads, meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.
Required skills
- Knowledge of SEND legislation and EHC processes.
- Familiarity with multi‑agency collaboration in education and health sectors.
