SEND Class Teacher – Bedford

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Class Teacher to join our specialist team in Bedford. The role involves teaching pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition and moderate to profound learning needs, helping them achieve their full potential in a supportive environment. You will lead a small, diverse class and deliver a personalised curriculum that balances academic development with life‑skills training.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to a wide range of learning needs.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment.
• Use a variety of communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton and visual supports.
• Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists and external professionals.
• Monitor, assess and report pupil progress against EHCP targets.
• Promote positive behaviour through consistent, supportive strategies.
• Build strong relationships with pupils, families and carers.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Experience working with pupils with autism and complex learning needs (desirable but not essential).
• Strong understanding of SEND practices and inclusive teaching strategies.
• Patient, resilient and adaptable approach.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
