SEND Learning Support Assistant – Temporary to Permanent

About the role

We are seeking a SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Hastings on a term‑time basis. The role starts as a temporary placement with the aim of progressing to a permanent position, offering the chance to make a meaningful impact on pupils with special educational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to SEND and EAL pupils.
• Deliver tailored learning programmes, set high expectations and encourage independence.
• Promote inclusive practice by fostering collaborative activities among pupils.
• Work with the SENCO and teachers to assess needs, contribute to Individual Learning Plans and EHCPs.
• Adapt and create resources suitable for SEND and EAL learners.
• Assist with related services such as speech, language and physical therapy sessions.
• Record observations, monitor progress and provide feedback to staff.
• Supervise pupils during breaks, lunch and school trips, ensuring safety and pastoral care.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar educational support role is preferred.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and maintain a strong classroom presence.
• Understanding of inclusive education strategies for SEND and EAL students.
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to interact with colleagues, parents and external professionals.
• Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children.
