SEND Learning Support Assistant – Term Time (Temporary to Permanent)

About the role

Reed Education is supporting a secondary school in Hastings to recruit a SEND Learning Support Assistant. The role is term‑time only and starts on a temporary basis with the aim of progressing to a permanent position. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and external specialists to create an inclusive learning environment for pupils with special educational needs and English as an Additional Language.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to SEND and EAL pupils.
• Deliver tailored learning programmes, set high expectations and encourage independence.
• Collaborate with the SENCO and teachers to assess needs, develop Individual Learning Plans and EHCPs.
• Adapt and create resources that enable pupils to access the curriculum safely.
• Assist with related services such as speech, language and physical therapy.
• Record observations, monitor progress and give feedback to staff.
• Supervise pupils during breaks, lunch and school trips, ensuring their welfare.

Required profile

• Experience in a similar educational support role is preferred.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and maintain a strong classroom presence.
• Understanding of inclusive strategies for SEND and EAL learners.
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with staff at all levels.
• Commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEND frameworks, EHCPs and EAL support strategies.
• Ability to adapt teaching resources for diverse learning needs.
