SEND Officer – Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

About the role
The SEND Officer will manage a high‑volume caseload of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, ensuring statutory compliance and delivering high‑quality support from preparation for adulthood through post‑16 processes.
Key responsibilities
- Manage an allocated caseload of approximately 200 SEND cases, coordinating Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments, planning and reviews.
- Draft, finalise and issue EHC Plans, ensuring all statutory timescales are met.
- Work collaboratively with families, schools, health professionals, social care colleagues and post‑16 providers to secure appropriate provision and placements.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records in the SEND Case Management System (Capita ONE) and ensure compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.
- Prepare and present case summaries, recommendations and financial considerations for SEND panels and decision‑making forums.
- Attend panels, annual reviews, transitional reviews and other meetings to support effective outcomes and Preparing for Adulthood planning.
- Monitor progress of children and young people with EHC Plans, identifying unmet outcomes and arranging further interventions as needed.
Required profile
- Minimum three years’ experience in a SEND Officer role.
- Strong working knowledge of Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) and post‑16/18 SEND processes.
- Ability to work independently, hit the ground running and manage a high caseload.
- Availability to work five days per week.
Required skills
- Intermediate working knowledge of Capita/MRI systems.
- Proficiency with SharePoint and Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience using the SEND Case Management System (Capita ONE).
- Understanding of statutory frameworks: Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice (2015).
