SEND & SEMH 1:1 Tutor – Crowborough

About the role

AP Education partners with local authorities to deliver tailored 1:1 alternative provision for children and young people who cannot access mainstream education. We are looking for dedicated tutors to support learners with complex SEND and SEMH needs in Crowborough.

Key responsibilities

• Provide face‑to‑face 1:1 support for students from Early Years to KS4, delivering core subjects (Maths, English, Science) or SEND‑specific curricula.
• Implement positive behaviour management strategies and adopt a therapeutic, adaptable approach.
• Conduct baseline academic and emotional assessments to guide targeted interventions.
• Prepare daily and weekly progress reports and liaise with external professionals such as SALT, OT, or social workers.
• Record attendance using the company’s attendance software and support learners transitioning to mainstream or specialist settings.

Required profile

• Proven experience teaching or tutoring children with SEND/SEMH requirements.
• Background in education, youth work, or therapeutic settings.
• QTS or HLTA qualification preferred, though two years of relevant UK experience without formal qualifications is acceptable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate, dependable, and proactive attitude.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, Autism, EBSA, SpLD, and MLD categories.
• Ability to deliver core academic subjects and adapt content for individual needs.
• Experience using attendance and reporting software.
