SEND Specialist Tutor (Part‑time, Reading)

About the role

We are seeking inspirational SEND Specialist Tutors to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Reading. The role involves delivering 1:1 tailored lessons during school hours to re‑engage pupils, provide structure and help them continue their educational development.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, create and deliver personalised 1:1 lessons for SEND pupils.
• Monitor and report pupil progress weekly to the agency.
• Provide a supportive learning environment during school hours, five days a week.
• Collaborate with families to schedule convenient tutoring times.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
• UK classroom teaching experience.
• Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS (online update service acceptable).
• Two professional child‑related references.
• Creative, patient and able to think outside the box.
• Experience managing challenging behaviour and disengaged pupils.

Required skills

• PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) training (preferred).
• Makaton signing (preferred).
