SEND Teacher – Primary Specialist Provision (SLCN)

About the role

We are seeking a passionate SEND Teacher to lead a small specialist primary provision for pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) within an inclusive mainstream school in Burnley. You will work with a maximum of nine pupils, supported by two experienced Teaching Assistants, to deliver a sensory‑based curriculum that meets individual EHCP outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead teaching and learning in a specialist classroom of up to nine pupils.
• Plan and deliver a sensory‑based curriculum tailored to each pupil’s communication targets and EHCP outcomes.
• Create a communication‑rich environment that fosters confidence, independence and engagement.
• Monitor and assess progress against EHCP outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with families, therapists and external professionals.
• Lead and manage two Teaching Assistants, setting clear expectations.
• Maintain a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Experience working with pupils with SEND, preferably SLCN.
• Strong leadership and team‑management abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with children and families.
• Patience, resilience and high emotional intelligence.
• Commitment to inclusive education and high expectations for all pupils.
• Flexibility and solution‑focused approach to complex needs.
