SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism & Complex Needs (Bury)

About the role

The school in Bury is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with autism and complex additional needs. This full‑time, term‑time position offers the chance to work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to help young people achieve their individual education, health and care plan (EHCP) outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide structured support to pupils throughout the school day, both in class and during less formal activities.
• Implement individual learning programmes, behaviour support plans and visual timetables.
• Assist non‑verbal pupils or those using alternative communication methods.
• Support emotional regulation, sensory needs and anxiety management.
• Promote positive behaviour, independence and engagement with learning.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and wider support staff to maintain a safe, nurturing environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting autistic children or young people.
• Strong understanding of autism, communication needs and behaviours that challenge.
• Calm, consistent approach in demanding situations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting pupils with SEND.

Required skills

• Team Teach qualification or equivalent.
