SEND Teaching Assistant – Complex Needs (Peckham)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex needs in a specialist SEND school in Peckham. The role starts in September 2026 and is full‑time, term‑time only, offering the chance to help students with autism, severe and profound learning difficulties, communication challenges and sensory needs achieve their personal goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with complex SEND needs.
• Assist with communication, emotional regulation, personal care and sensory interventions.
• Implement behaviour‑management strategies and support the use of positive behaviour programmes.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff to deliver tailored learning programmes.
• Monitor, record and report pupil progress and achievements.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or adults with complex needs, autism or challenging behaviour.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Ability to remain calm, patient and adaptable in a demanding environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enhanced DBS checks (child and adult) and right to work in the UK.

Required skills

• Knowledge of PECS and Makaton or other alternative communication methods.
• Training in Team Teach, MAPA or other positive behaviour management approaches.
