SEND Teaching Assistant

About the role

Hays Education is partnering with inclusive secondary schools across London to provide specialist support for pupils with additional needs. As a SEND Teaching Assistant you will work directly with students who have ADHD and/or Autism, helping them access the curriculum and thrive in a secondary school setting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for students with ADHD and/or ASD across Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Implement strategies to improve attention, engagement and emotional regulation.
• Assist teachers with differentiated learning activities tailored to individual needs.
• Support behaviour management using positive, consistent approaches.
• Promote a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to monitor and support student progress.

Required profile

• Experience supporting young people with ADHD and/or Autism (ASD).
• Patient, resilient and empathetic attitude.
• Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation abilities.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Adaptable and confident working in a secondary school environment.
• Hold (or be willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS check.
• Experience in schools, youth work, care settings or psychology‑related roles is highly desirable.
