SEND Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are partnering with a specialist SEN school in Rochdale to hire a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant. This full‑time, term‑time position supports children and young people with autism, communication difficulties, sensory processing needs and complex learning needs.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with a range of SEND, including autism and complex needs
• Deliver targeted 1:1 and small‑group support
• Implement individual learning and behaviour support plans
• Use visual supports, communication systems and structured routines
• Help pupils develop social, communication and independence skills
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
• Assist with transitions and daily routines
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND
• Good understanding of autism and associated needs
• Confidence supporting pupils with communication and behavioural challenges
• Ability to build positive and professional relationships
• Calm, resilient and proactive approach
• Genuine commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Eligibility to work in the UK

Required skills

• Team Teach training or similar de‑escalation/positive handling training

What we offer

• Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, term‑time only
• Pay £92.56 – £120 per day, dependent on experience
