SEND Teaching Assistant – Luton

About the role

We are seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs in specialist schools across Luton. You will work closely with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to create a nurturing, inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEND.
• Assist pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, and complex learning needs.
• Encourage communication, independence and confidence throughout the school day.
• Collaborate with teachers to deliver engaging, accessible learning activities.
• Promote positive behaviour using consistent, nurturing strategies.
• Assist with personal care where required.
• Help maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment.

Required profile

• Previous UK experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant or in a similar support role.
• Patient, resilient and caring nature.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Confidence adapting approaches to meet individual pupil needs.
• Genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEND.
• Experience with personal care is advantageous but not essential.
