SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary Alternative Provision

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary alternative provision in Bolton. The school supports pupils aged 5‑11 who have been excluded or are at serious risk of exclusion, providing a structured environment for children with SEND and SEMH needs.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with a range of SEND and SEMH needs within the classroom.
• Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement with learning.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering personalised learning activities and interventions.
• Help pupils develop confidence, emotional resilience and social skills.
• Promote positive behaviour and support pupils in overcoming barriers to education.
• Collaborate with teachers and the wider school team to ensure every child reaches their potential.

Required profile

• UK degree in SEND Education, Psychology, Educational Psychology or a related field.
• Previous experience supporting children with SEND in a primary setting.
• Experience working with children who have SEMH needs.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient with a genuine passion for vulnerable children.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Available to work full‑time from September on a long‑term basis.
