SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Full‑time)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant specialist primary school in County Durham. The role starts on 3 September 2026 and offers a full‑time schedule, Monday to Friday, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including autism and profound learning difficulties.
• Assist students with learning activities, adapting and modifying materials to ensure full inclusion in lessons.
• Support the development of pupils' social, emotional and behavioural skills.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and support staff to implement individual learning plans.
• Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
• Help manage the classroom environment, maintaining a safe and engaging setting.
• Promote inclusion, equality and respect for diversity throughout the school.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children, preferably in a school or educational setting.
• Experience supporting students with SEND is essential.
• A valid Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or one in progress.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Understanding of a range of SEND needs, such as autism, ADHD and learning disabilities.
• Positive, professional attitude towards inclusive education and the ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.

Required skills

• Valid Child Workforce DBS (or pending).
