SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Islington)

About the role

A welcoming primary school in Islington is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to start in September 2026. You will work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to provide tailored support for pupils with special educational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with additional needs within the classroom and around the school.
• Deliver targeted interventions and implement strategies set by the teacher and SENCO.
• Encourage independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour management.
• Adapt learning resources to meet individual needs.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents and external professionals as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting pupils with SEND in a primary school.
• Experience with Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH or other additional learning needs.
• Confidence providing 1:1 and small‑group support.
• Patient, nurturing and resilient approach.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Commitment to inclusion and helping every child achieve their potential.
