SEND Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (London)

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join a large secondary school in Tower Hamlets, London, starting in September. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to support pupils with a range of special educational needs in a nurturing, inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for students with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties.
• Assist teachers in delivering engaging, accessible lessons and support students academically and socially throughout the school day.
• Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and targeted support strategies as directed.
• Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and independence.
• Monitor and record progress, giving feedback to teachers and SEN staff.
• Support pupils during lessons, breaktimes and other school activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, parents and external professionals to ensure appropriate support.
• Uphold safeguarding procedures and contribute to a safe learning environment.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs (desirable).
• Patient, caring and empathetic approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to stay calm and resilient in challenging situations.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.

Required skills

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
