SEND Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Oldham)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Oldham. The role starts on 22 April 2025 and involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to students with autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH challenges.
• Deliver structured interventions under the direction of the SENCO.
• Assist in implementing and monitoring EHCPs and individual support plans.
• Help maintain a calm, inclusive classroom environment and support classroom management.
• Communicate regularly with teachers, parents and external professionals as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience working in a UK school or educational setting.
• Strong understanding of SEND strategies and interventions.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with young people.
• Resilience, patience and a proactive approach to supporting individual needs.
• Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEND legislation and best‑practice approaches.
