SEND Teaching Assistant (SEMH) – Specialist School

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Bromley from September 2026. The role supports pupils with complex social, emotional and mental health needs, including autism, severe learning difficulties and sensory challenges, helping them access learning and develop independence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with complex SEND needs.
• Assist with communication, emotional regulation and personal development activities.
• Implement behaviour management strategies and sensory interventions.
• Support personal care requirements where needed.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff to deliver tailored learning programmes.
• Promote a positive, inclusive and nurturing classroom environment.
• Monitor and record pupil progress and achievements.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or adults with complex SEND, autism or challenging behaviour.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Ability to remain calm, patient and adaptable in a challenging environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
• Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service and right to work in the UK.
