SEND Teaching Assistant – Support Students with Autism & SEMH

About the role
We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a secondary‑age SEND school in Rochdale. The role starts in September 2026 and involves supporting pupils aged 11‑18 with autism, SEMH and related needs, using your background in sport, coaching or community work to build trust and promote wellbeing.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to help pupils stay focused, manage behaviour and develop learning routines.
- Use sports, fitness, martial arts or similar activities to encourage confidence and emotional regulation.
- Assist teachers in delivering structured lessons and ensure a safe, consistent environment.
- Collaborate with the SEND specialist team to maintain consistency and emotional stability for students.
Required profile
- Experience working with young people in schools, coaching, youth clubs, community projects or faith‑based organisations.
- Calm, patient and emotionally resilient with a reliable attendance record.
- Strong communication skills to build trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families.
