SEND Teaching Assistant – Year 3 (Autism & SEMH)

About the role
This full‑time, fixed‑term position supports a Year 3 pupil with autism and SEMH needs in a welcoming two‑form entry primary school in Edgware. You will work closely with the class teacher and the wider SEND team to ensure the pupil accesses the mainstream curriculum while receiving tailored emotional and academic support.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one support for a Year 3 pupil with autism and SEMH.
- Plan and adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
- Use positive behaviour management and de‑escalation techniques to help the pupil regulate emotions.
- Collaborate with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school staff.
- Promote independence, resilience and positive engagement in learning.
Required profile
- Previous experience supporting children with SEND, especially autism and SEMH.
- Proven ability to manage challenging behaviours calmly and consistently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
