Senior Accountant

About the role

Our client, a forward‑thinking accountancy practice based in Hampshire, is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to lead a diverse client portfolio and provide high‑quality accounting, tax and advisory services.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and submit annual accounts and tax returns for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Manage a portfolio of clients, delivering accounting, compliance and proactive tax‑planning advice.
• Review work of team members, provide technical guidance, coaching and mentorship.
• Communicate with clients via phone, email, social media and face‑to‑face meetings to obtain records and resolve queries.
• Support onboarding of new clients and lead year‑end meetings presenting accounts and performance.
• Prepare and review bookkeeping, VAT and CIS returns where required.
• Liaise with HMRC and Companies House to maintain statutory compliance.
• Deliver external training and client bookkeeping support as needed.

Required profile

• Full membership of a recognised professional accounting body (AAT, ATT, ACCA or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience within an accountancy practice.
• Proven ability to manage a varied client portfolio in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong technical understanding of UK accounting and taxation principles.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Cloud accounting software: Xero, QuickBooks, Dext, FreeAgent.
• Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
