Senior Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a technically strong Senior Accountant to join a respected UK professional body and educational charity. The role is remote‑first with occasional travel to London and will help shape a newly established finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the monthly management accounts process and produce budgets, forecasts and cash‑flow projections.
• Own balance‑sheet reconciliations, general‑ledger maintenance and financial controls.
• Prepare statutory accounts, support annual audits and manage UK and international VAT reporting.
• Provide financial analysis and commentary to senior stakeholders.
• Develop and improve finance processes, reporting templates and controls.
• Mentor a Finance Officer and work closely with budget holders and senior leaders.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACCA or CIMA).
• Strong understanding of FRS 102 and the Charities SORP.
• Significant experience in the charity or not‑for‑profit sector.
• Extensive experience in financial accounting, management reporting, statutory accounts and audits.
• Excellent balance‑sheet reconciliation skills.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel, including analysis of large data sets.
• VAT reporting and submission.
• General‑ledger knowledge.
• FRS 102 application.
• Charities SORP compliance.
