Senior Accountant – Practice (Birmingham)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant (Practice) to join a well‑established accountancy firm in Birmingham. The role offers autonomy over a diverse client portfolio and the chance to influence service delivery within a supportive, forward‑thinking team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review statutory financial statements for limited companies and sole traders.
• Oversee corporation tax returns and support personal tax filings for clients.
• Serve as the primary contact for allocated clients, managing relationships and expectations.
• Provide financial interpretation, commercial insights and ad‑hoc advisory support.
• Assist with VAT, payroll and company secretarial matters in collaboration with senior team members.
• Help clients implement and improve internal systems, processes and accounting software.
• Ensure deadlines are met and deliver high‑quality work.
• Mentor and support junior team members in their development.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified with at least 2 years post‑qualification experience in practice.
• Proven experience managing a client portfolio in a busy accountancy environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation, tax and financial reporting.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build long‑term client relationships.
• Highly organised, detail‑focused and able to manage competing priorities under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Excel and Word.
• Experience with cloud‑based accounting platforms such as Xero or Sage.
