Senior Accountant – Public Sector Finance

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our public‑sector finance team in Portsmouth. You will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting and analysis, supporting efficient management of public funds.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse financial reports to support decision‑making processes.
• Oversee budgeting and forecasting activities to ensure financial accuracy.
• Maintain compliance with relevant regulations and public‑sector accounting standards.
• Provide financial advice and insights to management and stakeholders.
• Monitor and manage financial performance against budgets.
• Support audits and ensure proper documentation of financial activities.
• Identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
• Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.

Required profile

• A professional accounting qualification or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting and public‑sector regulations.
• Experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
• Attention to detail and a methodical approach to financial tasks.
• Excellent communication skills to liaise with stakeholders effectively.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
