Senior Accounts Payable Assistant

About the role

This is a 6‑9 month fixed‑term contract for a Senior Accounts Payable Assistant within a fast‑paced finance team in Newcastle upon Tyne. You will report to the Accounts Payable Manager and support the day‑to‑day operation of the purchase ledger, ensuring accurate and timely supplier payments while working in a hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• End‑to‑end processing of high‑volume supplier invoices, including matching, batching and coding.
• Manage supplier statement reconciliations, resolve discrepancies and handle supplier queries.
• Prepare and process payment runs and monitor AP inboxes.
• Assist with month‑end close activities, reporting requirements and process improvements.
• Provide guidance and training to junior team members where required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a senior Accounts Payable role.
• Strong knowledge of end‑to‑end purchase ledger processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage high volumes in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused approach and availability to start in September.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience using finance systems.
