Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Monzo is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join one of its product squads. You will work on building and maintaining core banking services that power millions of customers, collaborating with product, design and data teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services for core banking, payments, or financial‑crime detection.
• Participate in code reviews, testing and performance optimisation.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional squad members to define requirements and deliver features end‑to‑end.
• Contribute to Monzo’s open‑source initiatives and internal tooling.
• Help ensure security, reliability and compliance of banking infrastructure.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a backend engineer in a fast‑moving, high‑scale environment.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work autonomously within a squad.
• Passion for building financial products that improve customers’ lives.
