Senior Backend Product Engineer

About the role

You will help build Sequence’s AI‑powered revenue platform, focusing on backend systems that process high‑velocity event streams and critical billing infrastructure. The role combines product ownership, system design, and direct impact on finance‑team workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Build flexible AI‑driven approval workflow routing that translates natural‑language rules into deterministic business logic.
• Develop an intelligent collections agent that automates reminder and escalation actions based on natural‑language instructions.
• Scale the billing pipeline 10x by redesigning storage strategies, horizontal scalability, and cost‑effective load handling.
• Design and maintain high‑throughput event‑stream processing systems with a focus on reliability and performance.

Required profile

• Proven experience shipping production backend systems and a focus on reliability.
• Customer‑centric mindset, eager to understand the problem before building a solution.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast‑moving environments and iterating based on feedback.
• Clear communicator who collaborates effectively across product and design.

Required skills

• Kotlin (including Http4k, Spring Boot, Exposed, Result4k)
• PostgreSQL and BigQuery relational databases
• Google Cloud Platform services (Pub/Sub, Cloud Monitoring, Terraform)
• TypeScript and React for frontend integration
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform
