Senior Building Control Officer (Hybrid)

About the role

The Senior Building Control Officer will examine domestic applications and plans, and carry out inspections to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and related legislation. Working without direct supervision, you will also provide technical advice to customers and liaise with internal and external bodies.

Key responsibilities

• Examine domestic applications and plans and conduct building inspections.
• Provide professional advice on pre‑application submissions.
• Liaise with other directorates, external agencies and partners on building control matters.
• Investigate reports of dangerous structures and take action to render them safe.
• Research product data for regulatory compliance.
• Contribute to service objectives and performance indicators.
• Maintain manual and computerized records and use team software proficiently.
• Represent the Building Control service at internal and external meetings.
• Assist with major project applications, including fire‑engineered solutions and Building Bulletins.
• Support partnered organisations with non‑domestic applications.
• Inspect and audit existing client buildings to recommend improvements for Equality Act compliance.

Required profile

• Validated competence in building control without direct supervision.
• Ability to work within set competence limits and follow guidance.
• Strong communication skills for liaising with customers and agencies.
• Willingness to work outside normal hours when dangerous structures are reported.
• Experience in maintaining accurate records and using relevant software.
