Senior Building Surveyor

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Building Surveyor to join Kier Design’s Architecture & Building Consultancy team in Nottinghamshire. The role involves delivering high‑quality surveying services to public and private sector clients while mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct surveys of existing buildings and prepare detailed condition reports, advising on repair, maintenance, improvement or development opportunities.
• Design and specify refurbishment, remodelling, restoration and extension works for a variety of building types.
• Manage contracts and support procurement processes for building projects, ensuring compliance with health, safety and regulatory requirements.
• Project‑manage the delivery of building surveying services, maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring commissions are completed on time and within budget.
• Contribute to business development by identifying new opportunities, preparing fee proposals and supporting tender responses.

Required profile

• At least an HNC/HND qualification relevant to building surveying (degree level or RICS‑accredited qualification preferred, with chartered status through RICS or CIOB).
• Broad experience as a building surveying practitioner across different building types and sectors.
• Confidence with contract administration, particularly using JCT and NEC forms, and strong project‑management capabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build collaborative relationships with colleagues and clients.
• Proficiency in MS Office, NBS Chorus and AutoCAD, with strong problem‑solving abilities and a positive ‘can‑do’ approach.
