Senior Business Controller

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Business Controller to join a high‑performing finance function in Stevenage. The role combines business partnering, leadership of the controlling team and strategic financial decision‑making within a project‑driven environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, support and develop the controlling team to provide effective business partnering.
• Deliver accurate internal and external reporting (month‑end, half‑year, year‑end).
• Manage financial planning cycles, quarterly forecasts and month‑end/year‑end close.
• Partner with Project Managers to coordinate monthly project reviews and monitor project expenditure.
• Assess project revenue using Percentage of Completion and Time & Materials methods and reconcile work‑in‑progress monthly.
• Prepare and present financial reports to senior management and advise on contract status.
• Develop and maintain financial policies, support bid preparation, billing structures and cost‑rate analysis.
• Ensure compliance with regulations, conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or equivalent).
• Strong experience in financial management and controlling, preferably in engineering, manufacturing or technical projects.
• Proven ability to lead a team and influence senior stakeholders.
• Experience with project work‑package management and financial forecasting.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel.
• Financial systems (e.g., ERP, budgeting tools).
