Senior Care Assistant – Residential Care

About the role

The Senior Care Assistant will lead the residential care team in a Southampton care home, ensuring each resident receives a personalised, dignified service. You will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating high‑quality care while upholding the home’s standards and values.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct care for all residential residents, following individual care plans.
• Lead, supervise and support the care team, identifying and correcting performance shortfalls.
• Audit and review care standards, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH and the Care Standards Act.
• Maintain accurate resident records, coordinate with relatives, social workers and support groups.
• Monitor, dispense and record medication in line with legislative guidelines.
• Manage stock control and ordering of prescribed medication and medical supplies.
• Promote infection control and personal hygiene practices throughout the home.
• Identify training needs and assist in staff development programmes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in residential or nursing home care, preferably in a senior or supervisory role.
• Strong understanding of statutory regulations such as Health & Safety, COSHH and the Care Standards Act.
• Ability to lead a team, conduct audits and implement improvements.
• Excellent communication skills with residents, families and multidisciplinary professionals.
• Attention to detail in record‑keeping and medication administration.
