Senior Category Manager – NHS Construction Procurement

About the role

Join the NHS SBS Construction Category Team as a Senior Category Manager and help shape the future of healthcare construction across the UK. You will lead two major frameworks – Healthcare Planning, Construction Consultancy and Ancillary Services (HPCCAS) and the Modular Buildings Framework – delivering value and improving environments for patients, staff and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and support a team of construction procurement specialists.
• Develop short‑ and long‑term category strategies that enhance resilience and unlock value.
• Manage major construction contracts (JCT, NEC) ensuring compliance with PCR 2015 and PA23.
• Provide advisory support using construction consultancy expertise.
• Analyse data and insights to identify cost‑saving and process‑improvement opportunities.
• Oversee a portfolio of high‑value projects and influence procurement decisions.
• Present to senior leadership and contribute at board‑level discussions.
• Collaborate with Service Directorates, Heads of Procurement and senior NHS leaders.
• Negotiate with suppliers to meet product and service delivery requirements.

Required profile

• Strong background in public‑sector procurement with knowledge of PCR 2015 and PA23.
• Experience managing risk in construction supply chains.
• Proven ability to lead and develop procurement teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
