Senior Charge Nurse - Police Custody Healthcare (PCHC)

About the role

The Senior Charge Nurse will lead the Police Custody Healthcare (PCHC) team within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Working from the William Street Clinic, you will ensure safe, evidence‑based care for individuals held in police custody suites, supporting a new workforce model and promoting equal access to health services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 24‑hour clinical and managerial leadership for the nursing service in police custody suites.
• Oversee referrals, assessments, and the development of care programmes for detained patients.
• Maintain clinical and staff governance, ensuring compliance with NMC standards and the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code.
• Drive service improvement, quality initiatives and change management projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, justice partners and external agencies.

Required profile

• Current, active NMC UK PIN.
• Qualified nurse with senior leadership experience, preferably in forensic or custodial settings.
• Ability to work a shift pattern (Monday‑Friday core hours) and manage a peripatetic service.
• Valid driving licence for travel between custody suites.
• Eligibility for UK sponsorship where required.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and care planning for forensic populations.
• Knowledge of NHS policies, governance and quality improvement methodologies.
• Effective communication and multidisciplinary collaboration.
