Senior Clinical Coder (ACC) – Remote with Hospital Site Visits

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior ACC Clinical Coder to work remotely while making regular visits to hospital sites. The role involves coding NHS and private admitted patient episodes, ensuring compliance with national standards and supporting hospital performance.

Key responsibilities

• Apply the four‑step coding process to analyse and interpret complex clinical information from MAXIMS case notes, nursing notes, consultant notes, investigations and histology reports.
• Accurately assign ICD‑10 diagnosis codes and OPCS‑4 procedure codes using the clinical encoder and enter data correctly into hospital systems.
• Interpret medical terminology, anatomy and physiology across a range of specialties and adhere to NHS England coding standards.
• Manage own workload to meet internal and external coding deadlines, including daily coding volume targets.
• Review histology reports, raise queries with clinical teams when documentation is unclear, and update coding promptly.
• Maintain personal ICD‑10 and OPCS‑4 classification updates in line with national revisions.
• Lead and act on findings from coding audits, ensuring real‑time error correction and KPI achievement.
• Support clinical teams in understanding coding importance, attend coding meetings and provide coverage across multiple hospital sites as needed.

Required profile

• National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) – Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) certification or equivalent experience working towards ACC.
• Demonstrable expertise in ICD‑10 and OPCS‑4 clinical coding across various specialties.
• Proven experience coding NHS and private admitted patient episodes.
• Ability to work independently, manage workload and meet strict deadlines.
