Senior Controls Engineer

About the role

Our client, a well‑established engineering business specialising in control systems, automation and energy management, is looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to join their Harrogate‑based team. You will own projects from concept through commissioning, acting as the primary technical contact for blue‑chip UK clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage controls and automation projects from initial customer engagement to final delivery.
• Work closely with clients to understand operational requirements and develop technical solutions.
• Design, specify and implement electrical and control systems.
• Program, modify and integrate PLC, HMI, SCADA and BMS platforms.
• Coordinate project activities, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Conduct site surveys, testing and commissioning activities.
• Provide technical support, fault finding and troubleshooting on customer sites.
• Produce and maintain project documentation and technical records.
• Travel throughout the UK to support project delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering controls, automation, building‑management or energy‑management projects.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and control‑system design.
• Ability to manage projects independently and take ownership of outcomes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Willingness to travel nationally and hold a full UK driving licence.
