Senior Counselling Manager – Hybrid (Part‑time)

About the role

The Senior Counselling Manager provides strategic leadership, clinical governance and operational oversight for counselling services across Tyneside and Northumberland Mind. Working in a period of rapid growth, the role ensures safe, evidence‑based service delivery while championing collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and continuous improvement of counselling services.
• Collaborate with internal teams to build integrated service pathways.
• Identify growth opportunities, contribute to business planning and support funding bids.
• Represent the organisation at senior forums and build relationships with NHS partners and commissioners.
• Maintain departmental clinical governance, quality frameworks and BACP/UKCP compliance.
• Act as Level 6 Safeguarding Lead, managing risk registers and complex case escalations.
• Ensure GDPR and data‑governance compliance.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations, budgets, waiting lists and KPI performance.
• Line‑manage counselling managers and clinical leads, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Direct recruitment, workforce planning and clinical supervision structures.
• Monitor service data, equity of access and demand trends.
• Produce impact reports for senior leadership and the Board.

Required profile

• Significant experience in leading counselling or mental‑health services.
• Proven ability to manage clinical governance, safeguarding and data compliance.
• Strong track record of strategic planning, budgeting and performance monitoring.
• Excellent stakeholder management with NHS partners, commissioners and senior forums.
