Senior Data Engineer – 6‑month Contract (Hybrid, London)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join the Data Engineering team of a quantitative investment firm. You will help design and operate a multi‑petabyte data estate that powers systematic trading strategies and cutting‑edge discretionary research.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and build large‑scale data pipelines processing billions of data points daily.
• Maintain and optimise core infrastructure components such as Kafka, ArcticDB, MongoDB and related storage layers.
• Collaborate with quantitative analysts and traders to gather requirements and deliver reliable data solutions.
• Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of the data platform.

Required profile

• 5‑7 years of professional software engineering experience, primarily in Java or Python.
• Strong academic background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or Physics.
• Proficiency on Linux platforms and solid Git workflow knowledge.
• Deep understanding of at least one database technology such as Iceberg, PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication and independent working skills.

What we offer

• Rate: £650 per day (inside IR35)
• Hybrid working: 3 days in the office, 2 days remote
• Initial 6‑month contract with the possibility of extension
