Senior Data Engineer

About the role

We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer for a leading Lloyd’s market insurer. You will own the critical ETL pipeline that supports monthly, quarterly and year‑end financial close, while leading the migration from legacy on‑premise systems to a modern cloud‑native data platform.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and monitor ETL pipelines to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Act as the technical point of contact during monthly, quarterly and year‑end close processes.
• Design and build scalable workflows using Azure Data Factory and Databricks, replacing legacy SSIS pipelines.
• Identify and automate manual steps within the finance close workflow.
• Perform T‑SQL performance tuning across on‑premise and cloud environments.
• Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to resolve data issues, gather requirements and produce technical documentation.
• Establish CI/CD best practices using Azure DevOps.

Required profile

• Proven experience in finance‑focused data engineering or a similar insurer environment.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure Synapse, Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake.
• Solid knowledge of ETL tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory) and SQL Server technologies (T‑SQL, stored procedures, SSAS).
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps for source control and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience supporting the Phinsys system is highly desirable.
