Senior Data Engineer – RBAC & Security (Contract)

About the role

This contract role is for a Senior Data Engineer focused on role‑based access control (RBAC), data security and governance within Google Cloud Platform. You will work closely with architects, product owners and governance teams to design and deliver secure, scalable data solutions for a leading organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement RBAC and data‑security solutions across GCP.
• Develop and improve access controls for BigQuery and other cloud data environments.
• Support IAM/IDAM enhancements, service‑account access and reporting.
• Design data‑classification and governance‑by‑design architectures.
• Maintain and evolve a GCP/BigQuery lakehouse environment.
• Build and support data pipelines using Python, Airflow/Cloud Composer and dbt.
• Identify security vulnerabilities and assist with remediation.
• Implement robust CI/CD pipelines, testing and Terraform‑based infrastructure.
• Integrate with tools such as Fivetran, Tableau and Alation.

Required profile

• Strong commercial experience with GCP and BigQuery.
• Deep knowledge of RBAC/IAM in cloud data environments.
• Solid understanding of data security, governance and access controls.
• Hands‑on experience with Python, Airflow and dbt.
• Experience with Terraform, CI/CD and Kubernetes.
• Exposure to AWS alongside GCP.
• Proven stakeholder management and ability to collaborate with architects and engineers.
