Senior Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to develop bespoke baling machinery from concept through to delivery. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will manage multiple projects, collaborate with customers and manufacturing teams, and travel to oversee installations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop initial concept drawings and models for customers.
• Evolve concepts into detailed designs incorporating mechanical, hydraulic and electrical features.
• Create detailed engineering drawings for manufacture.
• Amend existing designs to meet bespoke customer requirements.
• Manage customer queries throughout the project lifecycle.
• Liaise with the manufacturing team to ensure schedules are met.
• Maintain technical specifications and user documentation.
• Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manage engineering deliverables.
• Travel to sites to oversee installations, commissioning and provide after‑sales support.
• Assist the after‑sales team with troubleshooting hydraulic, mechanical and electrical issues.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in heavy engineering design.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D modelling (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Strong time‑management, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM).
• Logical thinker with analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel and a valid driving licence.
