Senior Design Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Design Manager to join Kier’s Strategic Projects team, delivering large‑scale acute healthcare facilities across the UK. The role is full‑time and permanent, with flexibility on location nationwide. You will lead design delivery for a workstream comprising multiple packages on complex projects valued over £250 million.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design delivery across your designated workstream, collaborating with other workstreams to ensure seamless coordination and integration of design activities.
• Supervise design team consultants and supply‑chain partners, ensuring consistent quality, compliance with project programmes, and adherence to regulatory standards.
• Manage design risks and opportunities within your workstream, guaranteeing timely delivery of design outputs and mitigating potential issues.
• Support client interfaces, including user groups and stakeholder engagements, to align design solutions with user requirements.
• Line‑manage and mentor design management members, providing growth opportunities, career development, and fostering a supportive team environment.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading design on complex projects (£50 million to £150 million) or delivering packages on major projects exceeding £250 million, preferably within the healthcare sector.
• Relevant construction qualifications, minimum HND/HNC/T Level, in a discipline such as civil, structural, or building services engineering.
• Strong technical knowledge of construction regulations and digital applications used in the industry.
• Collaborative approach with excellent communication skills and the ability to nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
