Senior Ecologist – Desk Based (Hybrid)

About the role

This is a senior, primarily desk‑based ecology position within a fast‑growing environmental consultancy. You will lead ecological projects from proposal through to delivery, producing high‑quality technical reports for infrastructure, renewable energy and land‑development schemes across the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Manage ecological projects from the proposal stage to final delivery, including budgeting and resource allocation.
• Produce and review technical reports such as Ecological Impact Assessments, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Habitat Regulations Assessments and protected‑species reports.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, liaise with clients, planning authorities and stakeholders, and support fee proposals and tender submissions.
• Provide ecological advice for Environmental Impact Assessments and contribute to Biodiversity Net Gain strategies.
• Mentor junior consultants and uphold quality‑assurance processes.

Required profile

• Degree qualified in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
• Several years’ experience in ecological consultancy, with a proven track record of project management and client liaison.
• Strong knowledge of UK ecological legislation, planning policy and industry guidance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• CIEEM membership or progress towards membership is advantageous.
