Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer

About the role

The Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer will support commissioning of first‑of‑class electrical power and distribution systems for the next‑generation Dreadnought submarines. Working closely with engineering, build operations, the Royal Navy and MOD, you will ensure activities are delivered safely, compliantly and to the highest technical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out commissioning and testing activities with limited supervision in a high‑risk environment.
• Liaise with Engineering, Royal Navy, MOD and Build Operations to ensure safe, compliant delivery.
• Research, author and review design and test documentation.
• Maintain full and accurate records of all work in line with policy, procedure and legislation.
• Support and mentor less experienced team members.
• Represent the company during Factory Acceptance Tests, off‑site testing, contractor sea trials and other out‑working activities, including potential overseas travel.

Required profile

• Proven experience with AC and DC electrical generation and power distribution systems.
• Experience with electrical distribution, fire protection and electrical testing.
• Understanding of instrumentation systems such as electrostatic discharge, low‑voltage control, data communications, PLCs and fibre optics.
• Knowledge of safety controls and procedures in high‑risk environments.
• Awareness of Nuclear Site Licence and authorisation conditions.
• Ability to see how test and commissioning contributes to the wider defence enterprise.
