Senior Employee Relations Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Employee Relations Manager to join our People leadership team in Liverpool. You will shape a progressive, fair and commercially‑focused employee relations strategy, supporting senior leaders and safeguarding the organisation’s reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the employee relations strategy, providing expert advice on complex employee matters, employment risk and best practice.
• Manage complex individual and collective cases within a unionised environment, maintaining constructive relationships with recognised trade unions and employee representatives.
• Oversee high‑risk cases, including Employment Tribunal and Early Conciliation matters, from assessment to resolution.
• Act as a trusted adviser to senior leaders, balancing legal obligations with business priorities.
• Build leadership capability through coaching, guidance and practical support.
• Develop and enhance employee relations policies, frameworks and processes.
• Use data, trends and insights to identify emerging risks and influence People strategy.

Required profile

• Significant experience in employee relations, preferably within a unionised environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law and tribunal processes.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage high‑visibility cases.
• Excellent judgement, business insight and data‑driven decision making.
• Experience in policy development and continuous improvement initiatives.
