Senior Engineer - Civil Structures

About the role

Robert Bird Group is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead early‑stage civil and structural design on a variety of rail, highway, energy and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for designing operational assets such as bridges, stations and heavy civil works while ensuring seamless integration with other engineering disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Develop concept and detailed designs for bridges, stations and related civil structures.
• Coordinate design efforts across structural, civil, geotechnical and construction engineering teams.
• Support inspection, strengthening and replacement design of existing infrastructure.
• Liaise with key stakeholders including Network Rail and Transport for London (TfL) to align design solutions with regulatory requirements.
• Utilise advanced digital design tools to enhance buildability, safety and sustainability.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a senior civil/structural design engineer on large‑scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of bridge and station design principles.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
• Experience with UK infrastructure standards and stakeholder engagement is advantageous.
