Senior Engineer – Reactor Pressure Vessel Internals

About the role

Rolls‑Royce SMR is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the design and delivery of Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) internals for its next‑generation low‑carbon nuclear power programme. You will work within a specialist RPV Internals team, bridging leadership and engineering delivery while mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and refinement of RPV component designs, ensuring technical robustness and manufacturability.
• Produce and approve drawings and specifications to enable early supplier engagement and long‑lead material procurement.
• Collaborate with manufacturing partners and supply chain to embed design‑for‑manufacture principles.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, acting as an escalation point.
• Manage multiple work packages, balancing technical delivery with schedule and cost.
• Work across disciplines to support plant integration, resolve design risks, and maintain regulatory and quality compliance.
• Contribute to broader engineering strategy, planning, prioritisation and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Degree in a relevant engineering discipline with Chartered status achieved or in progress.
• Proven experience in component mechanical design within a complex, regulated industry (e.g., nuclear, defence, aerospace).
• Strong capability in producing and reviewing engineering drawings and specifications.
• Understanding of design‑for‑manufacture principles and experience working with suppliers.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME or GD&T and the full engineering lifecycle.
• Confidence leading technical discussions and mentoring engineering teams.
