Senior Estimator

About the role

Our client, a well‑established construction contractor, is seeking a Senior Estimator to join its pre‑construction team in Exeter. You will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive cost estimates for projects across education, healthcare, commercial and industrial sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions aligned with project specifications.
• Develop and maintain cost plans throughout design and pre‑construction stages.
• Collaborate with design, commercial and pre‑construction teams to secure new work.
• Review drawings, specifications and technical documents to ensure accurate pricing.
• Identify project risks and opportunities, offering cost‑effective solutions.
• Produce quantity take‑offs and measurement exercises using recognised industry standards.
• Support value‑engineering initiatives and advise on alternative construction solutions.
• Monitor and price design changes, providing comprehensive cost information for handover.
• Liaise with consultants, subcontractors and supply‑chain partners to obtain competitive quotations.
• Assist with budget reviews and affordability assessments.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an Estimator within the construction sector.
• Experience pricing projects through framework agreements, negotiated tenders or two‑stage procurement routes.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and technical information accurately.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of cost control principles.
