Senior Field Engineer – Data Centre (Server, Networking & Storage)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Field Engineer to join a specialist IT maintenance provider. Working primarily from home, you will travel across South East London and surrounding areas to diagnose and resolve server, storage and network issues for our clients.

Key responsibilities

• Triaging and resolving server, storage and network incidents on client sites.
• Taking ownership of issues that could affect contractual Service Level Agreements.
• Responding to technical assistance requests and coordinating parts orders.
• Providing general support and assisting pre‑sales technical activities.
• Participating in a regional 24/7 out‑of‑hours rota and acting as cover engineer when required.
• Analyzing complex problems, developing solutions and implementing fixes.
• Collaborating with Service Delivery, Service Desk, Logistics and Purchasing teams.
• Maintaining accurate records in internal systems and keeping technical knowledge up‑to‑date.

Required profile

• Proven experience with server, storage and network devices.
• Familiarity with manufacturers such as IBM, SUN, Cisco, Dell, HP, NetApp, Fujitsu, EMC and Hitachi.
• Background in the IT maintenance services industry and supporting external customers.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organisational skills and flexibility to work outside core hours.
• Valid driving licence and ability to manage a personal workload.

What we offer

• Competitive salary up to £40,000 per year (depending on experience).
• £5,000 car allowance.
• Full‑time permanent contract, Monday‑Friday with an on‑call rota (approximately one week in five).
• Remote working base with regular travel to client sites.
