Senior Financial Accountant

About the role

We are partnering with a fast‑growing service and wholesale group to hire a driven Senior Financial Accountant. Based on the outskirts of Cheltenham, the role offers a hybrid working model (2 days in the office, 3 days remote) and reports to the Accounting Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and timely consolidated accounts and statutory filings for each legal entity.
• Manage the external audit process and keep stakeholders informed.
• Oversee and mentor junior team members.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS and assess legislative impacts.
• Produce group trial‑balance consolidations, subsidiary accounts, annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
• Identify financial opportunities and risks, conduct working‑capital analysis and support treasury activities.
• Prepare statutory accounts, corporation tax packs and review balance‑sheet items.
• Handle VAT/Intrastat, EC sales returns and employee tax requirements.
• Coordinate acquisition accounting, manage insurance liabilities and act as the primary contact for external auditors.
• Coach a team of two, contribute to ad‑hoc projects and support the transition to a new ERP system.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a similar senior accounting role.
• Qualified ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP; IFRS experience is a plus.
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities.
• Excellent verbal communication and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Analytical mindset, adaptable and eager to learn.
• Advanced MS Excel skills.
• Experience with various financial systems; familiarity with MS D365 or ERP systems advantageous.
• Agricultural sector background is beneficial but not essential.
